There are many travel guides available for the iPhone/iPad, but here is what sets cityscouter.com guides apart from the rest:

• Designed to be used OFFLINE. All articles, events, transport and maps can be viewed without an internet connection.
• Augmented Reality - look through the camera on your device and see all the attractions around you!
• An up-to-date events guide: Update when you have an internet connection, and hundreds of upcoming events such as concerts, theatre, sporting events, festivals and more will be stored on your device. Updates occur regularly so your guide will never be behind.
• Fully zoomable, offline maps that shows your location and points of interest around you (your location is shown on the map). If a travel guide doesn’t have a map, it’s as good as useless.
• Professionally written content by locals who know the city well, and not just content taken from Wikipedia like so many other guides.
• Major transport lines and stations are stored in the guide. You can view the lines/stations on a map, or find the nearest station to you or any attractions with just a few taps.
• Hundreds of points of interest (all searchable) detailing attractions, museums, hotels, bars and cafes, nightlife and more with opening hours, pictures and prices.
• Add your own points of interest and plan your trip with the itinerary builder.
• Facebook integration so you can show your friends where youve been. Take photos, make an album and upload it.
• A tours section where you can book trips relevant to your stay.
• Live hotel booking that compares multiple hotel providers to ensure that you always get the best deal.
• Full iPad compatibility as well as iPhone and iPod Touch.
• English, German, Spanish and Japanese languages are supported for the travel guide content (event section is mostly in English).

Our guides are professionally written and have a huge amount of information about everything this city has to offer. Using your device’s location services, you can also always see what points of interest are around you at any time.

The events guide includes hundreds of upcoming events, and is regularly updated. Just click the update button when you have an internet connection, and the events will be stored on your device for offline use.

Not only do we have information on hundreds of hotels, but you can check availability and even book online if you haven’t yet found accommodation (internet connection required). Love it
It is up to date, and will be of great use in August for my vacation in and around Boston.
Disappointing
Just downloaded this prior to a visit to Boston this coming weekend. It has promise; however it appears that much of the key functionality is not there. In particular the events function doesnt list any events! This was the main reason I bought the app - so that I could easily find out what was going on during my stay in Boston. I am also disappointed in the restaurant listing. It certainly doesnt list some of the really great restaurants I have previously visited during past stays. If there was a way to return the app for a refund, I certainly would. Definately not worth the $3.99 price tag, when compared to freen apps doing a much better job.
Full of useful features and convenient
I have used the travel guides from CityScouter for several other cities. Works great for me as an adjunct to one other older-type dense print guide. Not exhaustive, but I forgive some of the oversights for some of the ease of use of the features the app does have. I had no trouble updating the events, tho of course nothings as good as a current Arts-edition newspaper. You can easily make a list of all your want-to-see sights, then the app can map them and even show you nearest subway or bus stops; which line etc. Info on opening times, phone numbers etc has been reliable thus far. And the fact that those sorts of tidbits are even included is great. Making a list of planned-to-see sights then toggling them to already-seen sights was helpful in cities where we didnt speak the local language and the names of many of the sights were long and distressingly similar to our unschooled ears! And the map was great too. Oh and the location-finding did seem to work accurately! I think the price is excellent; a fair value for the money. I hope they keep content and updates coming! (Ill give 5 stars once a few more restaurants and walking tours are added.)
